"And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three..." 1 Corinthians 13:13
What is Hope?
What is hope? The dictionary defines it as "to have a wish to get or do something or for something to happen or be true, especially something that seems possible or likely." Biblical hope is something far different. Biblical hope is, "A confident expectation which rests upon the promises of God." In other words, hope is believing that God's word is true and can be trusted. Genuine hope is not wishful thinking, but a confident expectation that God will do as He has promised. David said in Psalms 119:89 "For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven." Jesus said, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away" (Matthew 24:35) Hope takes the Word of God at face value!
Hope is an Anchor!
Now, because hope is anchored in the Word of God, it will see all that it expects come to pass, if not in time, then surely in eternity. Our hope will be finally realized in two splendid events. The first is the Return of Jesus Christ "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savour Jesus Christ" (Titus 2:13).
The second is Heaven's Reward "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time" (1 Peter 1:3-5)
These two events are our anchor. The devil would like nothing more than to take away that which holds us firm and get us to just drift any old way. We are not drifting, we are fixing to leave this old world!
Our Hope Walks on the Waves!
While we roam this world, things do not always go like we think they will. But, those who have anchored their hope in the Word of God know that even the rough seas this life are under His control today! He can still say "Peace be still!" He can still walk on your waves this day! He is still the same God He always has been! Don't lose your anchor of hope!
