"Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh." Hebrews 10:19-20
The veil was, according to Josephus, a four inch thick curtain that seperated the Holy Place from the Holy of Holies. Only the High Priest was allowed to enter the Holy of Holies, but only once a year and not without a blood sacrifice.
Matthew 27:50-52 records, "Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened; ..."
This curtain that was so thick that two horses pulling in opposite directions could not tear it apart, was torn from top to bottom. This was a miracle in itself, that had to be God. What did this mean for the believer? No longer did we have to go through the High Priest to enter the presence of God. Dead symbolic religion was gone, and a new living way was made "...through the veil, that is to say his flesh." Jesus said, "...I lay down my life, that I may take it up again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again..." (John 10:17)
Christianity is not just another "Religion" it is a "Relationship" with the Son of the Living God! Too many are still hiding behind that veil of fear, or doubt, or even confusion, when Christ has pulled down that veil so that we may enter into His presence any time day or night. Have you learned to enter through the veil, that is to say through Christ? He is the only way to the Father!
