Living Water

What do you drink when you are really thirsty? Some people drink iced tea, or sodas, or maybe sports drinks. I have found that the only thing that really satisfies is cool, clear, fresh water. Water is essential to the survival of life. Our bodies are made up of approximately 60% water. We use around 64 ounces a day just through breathing, sweating and regularly body functions. When our body gets low on water, we risk dehydration which can result in minor things such as dry mouth, and fatigue, to such serious results as kidney failure or even death. Doctors recommend we have a minimal of 8 glasses per day just to stay the normal routine of our bodies.
We are so conscious of the physical aspect of the benefits of water, but do we really stop and think of the spiritual aspect? How can water affect our spiritual well being? Just as there are physical benefits for the physical water or natural water, so there are spiritual benefits from the spiritual water or supernatural water. You might say, "I have never thought of water in a supernatural sense before." Jesus shared the importance of this supernatural water with a Samaritan woman nearly 2000 years ago. He said, "...whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life" (John 4:14). He goes on to say, "... he that believeth on me shall never thirst" (John 6:35) Can you imagine never getting thirsty, ever again? That is hard to imagine, but after all what is thirst? It is the lack of necessary fluids for your normal bodily functions. So when Jesus said, you "shall never thirst", He was referring to never lacking what your spiritual man needs. Everything you and I need for spiritual survival can be found in Jesus Christ. Many people try quenching their thirst through sugar-coated drinks and finding their body later suffering from the effects of too much sugar. Spiritually they are drinking anything other than Jesus, which is candy-coated. Those feel-good talks that many ministers are giving their people are not quenching the thirst of people. What we all need is the Truth of the Gospel. It may seem plain, bland, not all that desirous at first, but once you begin to drink... once you really taste and see, you will find that nothing can satisfy that spiritual thirst like Jesus can.
Are you thirsty today? Don't settle for anything less than the genuine "Thirst Quencher" Jesus Christ. He is that Living Water!
