Fire is a Dangerous Enemy

Fire can be a dangerous enemy. I am here at the site of a terrible wildfire in South Carolina and just saw how fire out of control destroyed over 67 homes ranging from $200,000 to over $500,000. Some of the homes were burned completely to the ground. As I watched the smoking debris I cannot help but think of how the devil wants to destroy our lives until we are nothing but a smoldering heap. How could something so devestating like this happen? Carelessness on someones part, that's how. How does a young man so blessed with a life of purpose get destroyed? The same way, carelessness. Paul said, "But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection..." (1 Cor 9:27) To "keep under my body" literally means to "hit under the eyes, to subdue one's passions and to make weary." Why is it so important to bring your body under control like this? Paul said, "... lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway" worthless and rejected. No one likes the thought of being rejected. If we do not control this life the devil will bring us to a reprobate condition. "And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind..." (Romans 1:28)
This terrible fire has only been half contained. There is still potential to do more damage. The devil still has potential to destroy more lives. Don't let it be yours!
