"And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn." Luke 2:6-7
Years ago, I was traveling across the country and was trying my best to make it in the least amount of time without having to stop. I found myself getting very sleepy and decided to pull off the road and find a room for the night. I passed several hotels displaying signs that said "No Vacancy". Then I came to one that I thought was so ironic. There was a sign that said, "Sorry, No Vacancy" , but under it was another sign that said "Open for Coctails." No room to spend the night, but come and socialize?
The Holy Spirit spoke to my heart saying, "This is the condition of many churches. They do not want the Savior, but they want to socialize with friends". I felt such a rebuke, that maybe I too had allowed the "No Vacancy" sign for Christ, but had time for other "Things" that seemed to be "weights that so easily beset". Making room for Christ means moving others out. Those unwanted guests that seem to hang on like a leach, sucking the very life out of us. Maybe it is hobbies, maybe television, maybe your job. What ever it is, it has sucked the very life out of you until when it comes to time with the Lord there is "No Vacancy".
Whatever needs to be done, just do it! Put that sign back up in your heart for Christ to see, "Welcome...Vacancy".
