Where is Your Helmet?

"And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God" (Ephesians 6:17).
IT IS REQUIRED OF YOU
A helmet was a necessary part of the soldiers life in the battle. There are several reasons for wearing a helmet. First of all, if you are a soldier in the army, it is required of you. Paul said, "take the helmet of salvation..." This was not an option but an order. You are in the Lord's army and must follow the captain's orders. Paul told the Church at Philippi, "Let this mind be in you..." (Philippians 2:5) and then to the church at Rome "... be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." (Romans 12:2) You are a soldier, so show others by the new way you think, not as the world thinks but contrary to that carnal man.
Where is your helmet?
IT IS FOR YOUR PROTECTION
The second reason it is for your protection. Satan is our arch enemy and will attack anytime, any place, and from any direction. Having that helmet on will protect your decision making. You see the thoughts you meditate on will become a part of your heart, and "... out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." (Matthew 12:34) You never know when the enemy will come against you, even in church from those who are a part of the family of God. On one occassion Jesus had been telling His disciples about His soon death. Peter openly rebuked Jesus, who then turned to disciples and "he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men." (Mark 8:33) Peter didn't have his helmet on.
Where is your helmet?
IT IS A SYMBOL OF YOUR BELONGING
Thirdly, wearing the helmet it is a symbol of your belonging. Paul said, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth..." (Romans 1:16) Too many are ashamed of Jesus, and so they remove the helmet while hanging with their friends of the world. Paul told Timothy "be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine." (1 Timothy 4:12-13) What you watch, listen to, and read will affect your thinking. That is why along with taking the helmet of salvation Paul said to also take "...the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God".
Where is your helmet?
Is it on your head or in your hand? The helmet should stay on your head and the only thing in your hand is the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
