Faith In The Name of Jesus

“And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know...” Acts 3:16

Peter and John had gone up to the temple at the hour of prayer when they met up with a lame man begging for alms. Peter looks at him and says "look on us” and the man is expecting to get some money from Peter and John. Then Peter says “silver and gold have I none, but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.”(v.6) Right away the lame man stands up and begins walking. This is totally awesome! Everyone is watching in amazement, because they knew that this was that beggar that always sat on the steps in front of the temple. Peter turns to the crowd to tell them it was not he or John that did this moracle, but Jesus “…His name through faith in His name hath made this man strong”. (v.16)
Peter probably remembered what Jesus had told he and the other disciples about how signs would follow believers “…they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover” (Mark 16:17-18) Peter also recalled that Jesus had told them that “whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.” (John 16:23) So my question is, why are we not seeing these same miracles today? Peter said it was not “through our power or holiness that made this man walk.” (Acts 3:12) Peter seemed to have the conviction that when he simply breathed that Name, Jesus, there was authority in that Name, and it was that authority that had made this man whole.
Hebrews chapter 11 is known as God’s Hall of Faith. Every person that had accomplished something did it “through faith”. We can pray and pray about something, but still not see our miracle take place. It is not until we by faith believe it is going to happen and then we speak that Name, will we see it happen. The moment we say maybe, or might we nullify our faith. Paul said, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17) Next time you hear the word preached, or you are simply reading the Word of God, let your faith grow, in the Name of Jesus. Then when the situation arises, don't doubt, or say "God might do it" or "maybe God will give a miracle", but simply believe!
